Dear Friends of St Vladimir's,
During Matins for Great and Holy Saturday, Orthodox faithful sing the moving phrase "Every generation offers Thee its hymn of praise at Thy burial, O my Christ." Each year, we affirm that Christ has been praised from the apostolic age and will be praised until He comes again.
While praising Christ, every generation also faces unique challenges to living a Christian life. The world around us is constantly changing, and our children and grandchildren will face challenges that our parents and grandparents never dreamed of. This presents us with unique opportunities to bear witness to Christ, preserving the essence of our Orthodox heritage while presenting it in new ways to a changing world.
St Vladimir's Seminary plays an important role in this critical mission. Our graduates will minister to all our faithful, and we must prepare them to serve every generation, so that every generation can and will offer to Christ a hymn of praise.
In keeping with this mission, I would like to invite you to visit St Vladimir's Seminary on October 7 for Orthodox Education Day. This year, we will explore the inter-generational nature of the Orthodox Church, through our theme of "All Ages, One Faith." This day will bring together Orthodox Christians of every age in worship, fellowship, lectures, and workshops. Our new Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology, Fr Harry Pappas, will deliver the keynote address, speaking of his experiences serving a large community with parishioners of every age. As in past years, our seminary community will hold a memorial service for departed loved ones in the afternoon. The full schedule of activities can be found on this web site.
Thank you so much for encouraging the work of the seminary. We cannot carry on our mission without you. Again, we hope to see you at the school on Ed Day.
With sincere gratitude,
Rev. John H. Erickson, Dean
