St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary always enjoys its beginning-of-the-year community cookout, but this year was even more enjoyable (and noisy) than usual. Faculty, seminarians, spouses, children, and some friends of SVS gathered on the front lawn to eat and talk together after celebrating Vespers for the Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos (7 Sept).
We were also watching each other’s children. Sixty-five children of all ages are living on campus this year, and all of them seemed to be happily in motion at the cookout. We asked the children to record the event. This picture collage is made up of all the pictures the children took – composed, not composed, two foot from the ground, six foot from the ground, of friends, of family, of the grounds, and of the food. They snapped what was close to them and what they were interested in. This is what the children saw – happiness and fellowship. It was a good start to the year.
