MUSIC PROGRAM: Youth Liturgical Leadership Institute
June 20–24, 2010
An integral aspect of liturgical services is engaged interaction in worshipful music-making. This summer, SVS will focus particular attention in its Music Institute on an educational (and fun!) workshop for youth members of our Orthodox worshiping communities, in order to address the needs and talents of our future leaders in song.
Students between the ages of 13 and 18, with an interest in learning more about Orthodox church music, will have the opportunity to work with experienced church musicians to develop skills and understanding
- of music notation,
- chanting,
- choral singing,
- and structure of liturgical services
- through engaging presentations, vocal training sessions, roundtable workshops, choral rehearsals, and participation in chapel services.
Though previous experience in choir or at the chanter’s stand is a plus, it is not required.
