Crestwood, NY (SVS): Plans are already formalized for the 32nd Annual Orthodox Education Day to be held on Saturday, October 6, 2001, on the campus of St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, NY. Seminary Dean, Fr Thomas Hopko, announced that the theme of this year's celebration is "Serving Christ in Our Neighbor: Reflections on Matthew 25."

The day will begin as usual with Liturgy starting at 9:30 AM. After the service, the crowd may enjoy delicious foods from different cultures. Fr Thomas then will deliver a main address under the tent. Specific workshops led by those working in the fields of prison ministry, philanthropy, and ministry to those suffering, will be scheduled throughout the day and will be repeated. The schedule will allow visitors to attend at least two different workshops. Concurrently, workshops for high school and college students, a children's activity booth, as well as a Festival of Music are planned. In addition, tours of the new John G Rangos Family Foundation Building will run throughout the day.

Various institutions, programs and organizations will display and disseminate their information. Joining the exhibit area this year will be the SVS booth that will include the Offices of Recruitment and Advancement along with faculty members ready to answer questions about academic programs. In addition, there will booths in the exhibit area to feature an Orthodox iconographer, an embroidery craftsperson, and a wood carver.

Fr Thomas commented, "We welcome everyone to this very special open house at the seminary where people can worship, have fellowship, and learn about the Faith."

Although Orthodox Education Day is not a major fund raising event for the seminary, donations are welcome and will be earmarked to offset the costs of subsidizing married student apartment off-campus. Entrance to the event is free to the public.
