Hieromonk Gregory (Woolfenden) serves as rector of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New Britain, CT. Prior to coming to the USA, Fr. Gregory was a member of the faculty of Theology of the University of Oxford. In addition to Liturgical Studies, he taught Byzantine Church History and Patristics and also served as an examiner and member of numerous college and university committees. Additionally, for some years, he was a member of the board of directors and chair of academic advisory committee of the Institute of Orthodox Christian Studies in Cambridge. He currently serves as Professor of Liturgical Studies at St. Sophia Seminary, South Bound Brook, New Jersey and is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Liturgical Studies at Yale Institute of Sacred Music/Yale Divinity School, for the 2007 spring semester.
Fr. Gregory has authored numerous articles on liturgical and theological subjects. He has published three books, most recently, Daily Liturgical Prayer (Aldershot & Burlington, VT: Ashgate, 2004). It is a study of the origins and theology of the daily services across the whole spectrum of traditional liturgical rites.
His keynote lecture on liturgical unity and diversity in North America, will set the tone for the rest of the Institute as he draws on his the wealth of his scholarship and liturgical and pastoral experience to address our theme. Fr. Gregory will remain for the entire Institute and offer a closing word for each of the general lectures.
