Annual Giving Officer

The Annual Giving Officer is responsible for all forms of giving for the current operations of the Seminary. The Annual Giving Officer reports to the Seminary’s Associate Chancellor for Advancement.

Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Achievement of targeted annual giving goal through the Annual Fund, Christmas appeal, Pascha appeal, Orthodox Education Day, special annual appeals, and Annual Scholarship appeal
  • Maintains donor relations with the first tier of annual donors
  • Cultivates new charitable relationships with potential contributors to the seminary
  • Plan and implement at least one annual funding raising event
  • Develops detailed strategies and goals for each annual appeal, which will include;
    • Direct asks, follow-ups, thank you letters, and thank you calls
    • Donor relations via phone, mail, and personal contact
    • Some presentations to individuals, small groups. and organizations on campus with limited local travel
  • Annual Giving Officer’s specific responsibilities
    • Develop specific strategies for each constituent group, beginning with direct mail. Personalize mail appeals not only to constituency, but also to donor history (seek first time gifts from non-donors, modest increases from continuing donors, restored past gift amounts from LYBUNT donors, etc.) Develop additional strategies such as class agents and reunion year giving designed to increase alumni giving by 5% per year until alumni giving reaches at least 35% per year.
    • Develop an annual work plan that sets specific dollar and donor goals for each donor segment with measurable activities and programs that can achieve those goals. Produce a monthly contributions report that lists dollars and donors by constituency group by month and YTD compared to last year, and measures progress toward the annual goals
    • Conduct a formal evaluation of the annual giving program at the conclusion of each year. Analyze results and responses based on effectiveness of the methods of asking, and determine improvements and changes to implement the following year.
  • Further assists the Associate Chancellor in facets of the seminary’s on-going Capital Campaign including:
    • Helps to achieve the targeted annual giving goal
    • Assists in maintaining donor relations with the second tier annual donors
    • Helps to cultivate new charitable relationships with potential contributors to the seminary
    • Assists in managing personal data portfolios and major donor prospects
    • Assists in financial and personal data input and record keeping
    • Assists in producing standard reports and tracking data
    • Contributes to policy and procedural matters related to the tracking of donor and other constituent data at the seminary
  • To assist in other projects as directed by the Associate Chancellor for Advancement, e.g., assists in the preparation of the Annual Report

The position requires an undergraduate degree with excellent writing, communications, and personal skills. A working knowledge of The Raiser's Edge or similar constituent management software and demonstrated experience in fund raising is required.
