St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary

A Week of Study for Musicians, Educators, Pastors
The Liturgical Institute of Music and Pastoral Practice will deal with the nature, structure, organization, boundaries and mission of the Church in Orthodox doctrine, worship and spiritual life.
The holy scriptures tell us that Christ’s Church is the presence of God’s kingdom on earth until the Lord comes in glory. It is Christ’s own body and bride, the "fulness of Him who fills all in all," the "pillar and bulwark of the truth." The saints tell us that without the Church as our Mother we cannot have God as our Father. They say that the "whole Christ" is the head and the body; not Jesus alone, but Jesus together with those who are His.
Housing and meals are available on the seminary campus. On-campus housing (in dormitory rooms) is limited and will be given to the first registrants. Others will be directed to local hotels for accommodations. Participants must provide their own sheets and towels, as well as other personal items needed for the week. Participants are also expected to arrange their own transportation to the seminary. Those traveling by car or train should request directions when sending in their registration forms. Limousine service is available from area airports to New Rochelle. Please call the seminary for information.

SVS Press is offering in conjunction with the registration for the SVS Summer Institute the following two new publications at 30% discount from list price:
These essays discuss different aspects of the estrangement between East and West and present an evaluation of several attempts at healing the schism. In a time when relations between the churches have suffered numerous setbacks, Meyendorff affirms that what is really at stake "is not the preservation of cultural categories shaped in the distant past, but the true 'catholicity' of the Christian message for the world today."
The first four ecumenical counts defined trinitarian and christological dogma in terms which ever since have been regarded as normative by the major Christian confessions of East and West. The author translates each canon into clear and readable English, exploring the circumstances which gave rise to each of them and the ways in which they have been interpreted (and misinterpreted) in later centuries.
This special offer is available only to readers of the 1996 Summer Institute announcement on this webpage. You can obtain one copy of either or both books at the special prices only if you call SVS Press at 1-800-204-2665 no later than June 17, 1996 and if you mention the "Special Offer on the OCA Webpages in conjunction with the announcement of the 1996 Summer Institute."
