RELEASE September 8, 2002 |
Washington,
DC (SVS) -- Twenty-five bishops, over 40 priests and deacons, and hundreds
of Orthodox Christian faithful from across North America filled Saint Nicholas
Cathedral here on Sunday, September 8, 2002, to witness the Enthronement of
His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman as Primate of the Orthodox Church in America.
St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary was represented at the festal divine
liturgy and reception in honor of His Beatitude by Dean John Erickson. Over
a dozen seminarians travelled from the Seminary to Washington for the historic
service.
Metropolitan
Herman, who was elected to head the Orthodox Church in America at July's 13th
All-American Council in Orlando, Florida, is ruling hierarch and ex officio
President of St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary.
A formal reception in the afternoon following the Divine Liturgy was held to honor the enthronement of His Beatitude. Dean Erickson joined representatives of the Orthodox Churches and church organizations in greeting His Beatitude and asking for his prayers as the seminary begins a new academic year.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman will make his first visit to the seminary as Primate next weekend for the feast of the Elevation of the Cross. He will formally install Professor Erickson as the Dean on Saturday, September 14.
