Feb 19 Fr Steven Belonick, Deborah Belonick, and Dr Albert Rossi led a full-day seminar for married student couples entitled  "Family and Ministry."
Feb 16 Spring Semester General Student Meeting
Feb 10 Seminary faculty extend thanks to field work supervisors at a luncheon on the seminary campus.  The supervisors act as mentors in local parishes and hospital settings.
Feb 2 Feast of the Meeting of the Lord in the Temple.  Bishop Seraphim of Ottawa (OCA) presides and ordains Deacon Christopher Rigden-Briscall to the priesthood, and third-year student Barnabas Powell to the diaconate.  Clergy bless the seminary facilities and dorm rooms.

Seminary celebrates its Patronal feast -- The Feast of the Three Hierarchs.  Bishop Seraphim of Ottawa (OCA) ordains second year student Joshua Lollar to the diaconate.  Third-year student Deacon Alexander Lukashonok is ordained to the priesthood at Holy Resurrection Church, Wayne, NJ by Bishop Tikhon of South Canaan (OCA).

SVS alumnus Fr Leonid Kishkovsky delivers the Annual Fr Alexander Schmemann Memorial Lecture.

Jan 24 Spring semester begins.
Jan 7 Seminary sends the St Vladimir's Chorale to Florida to visit parishes and witness to the work of the seminary.  The Chorale is comprised of seven males and four female seminarians.
Jan 6 Feast of Epiphany.  Seminary clergy bless the pool in the Boich Courtyard.

Dec 27 - 30 Fr Alexander Rentel travels to Antiochian Village to lead four workshops on "Faith that Moves Mountains."
Dec 27 - 29 Seminary holds Annual Christmas Retreat on the theme "The Passion of the Christ."  Fr John Behr, Dr Peter Bouteneff, and Dr Albert Rossi deliver talks.
Dec 25 Feast of Nativity.
Dec 17 Last day of the fall semester.
Dec 10 - 12 Seminary hosts Music Symposium.
Dec 5 St Nicholas Day celebration after the Liturgy is held for church school students and their parents.
Dec 4 Seminary choir records two new CD recordings at Holy Trinity Church in Yonkers, NY.  One CD will feature music from the Vigil Service.  The other will feature Orthodox chant music.
Dec 3 Seminarians host Talent Night.

Oct 14-15 Fr John Stefaro visits the seminary to interest students in military chaplaincy.
Oct 10-12 First-ever alumni class reunion held on the seminary campus. The classes of 1979 and 1954 were honored.
Oct 2 35th Annual Orthodox Education Day is held.
Sep 29 Seminary conducts a "Community of Safety" meeting for all students, staff, and faculty members.  Mandated by the Orthodox Church in America, the meeting focuses on sexual abuse of children and prevention in the parish and on the campus.
Sep 20 The annual St Vladimir's Seminary lecture series is held for five consecutive Monday evenings in New Haven, CT.
Sep 16 Seminary faculty and staff attend the banquet celebrating the acceptance of St Tikhon's Seminary into the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).
Sep 15 General student meeting for the fall semester.
Sep 14 Feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross.  Metropolitan Herman presides at the Liturgy and ordains MTh student, Deacon Basil Biberdorf, to the holy priesthood and second year student, Joshua Mosher, to the diaconate.  Five students are tonsured as readers.

The Liturgical Institute of Music and Pastoral Practice and the Youth Institute convene.  The theme is "Does Christian Marriage Have a Future?"

PSALM holds its annual meeting on the seminary campus.

Board of Trustees meets.

Metropolitan Herman presides at the Liturgy on Commencement Day and ordains Alexander Lukashonok to the diaconate. The graduating class of 2004 includes 18 students.  Bishop Basil (Essey) (AOCA), an SVS alumnus, concelebrates at the Liturgy and delivers commencement address.

May 6 Seminary hosts annual cookout for the faculty, students, and their families.
Apr 22-24 The Office of Advancement at the seminary hosts its first "SVS Immersion," inviting prospective supporters to the school to understand its mission and to experience its life.
Apr 17 Seminary hosts a surprise retirement party for David Drillock.  Over one hundred people attend.  Church musicians attending the event compose numerous liturgical pieces in honor of David and his long service to the seminary and to the church in the field of liturgical music.

Apr 3 The Feast of the Raising of Lazarus.  The church school children sing parts of the Liturgy and participate in the procession.
Mar 27 Fr Paul Lazor is the retreat master for the annual Lenten Retreat.
Mar 25 Newly-consecrated bishop Tikhon presides at the Liturgy of the Feast of Annunciation and ordains MTh student, Daryl Biberdorff, to the diaconate and second-year Deacon David Arnold to the holy priesthood. (See release and photos)

The seminary male choir sings the responses to the Pre-Sanctified Gifts at Syosset, NY for the meeting of the Holy Synod (OCA). Professor David Drillock and his wife Barbara are awarded a gramata from the Holy Synod in recognition for their many years of labor at St Vladimir's.

Bishop-Elect Benjamin (Peterson), Chancellor of the Diocese of the West, and Archpriest Matthew Tate, Dean of the Missionary District visited St Vladimir's Seminary.

Mar 16 St Vladimir's and St Nersess' co-host an Eastern-Oriental Orthodox Symposium on the seminary campus.

The "Orthodox Interseminary Movement" (OISM) met on the seminary campus for their semi-annual meeting. Holy Cross, St Tikhon's, St Herman's, and Holy Trinity sent representatives.

His Grace, Bishop Seraphim of Ottawa (OCA) visits the campus and ordains MTh student, Kevin Haan, to the diaconate on Saturday, March 13, and third-year student, John Strickland, to the diaconate on Sunday, March 14. (See photos)

Mar 10 Entire seminary community gathers to participate in a four-hour seminar on "Reducing the Risk of Sexual Misconduct and Child Sexual Abuse" mandated by the Orthodox Church in America.

The graduating class of 2003 includes 26 students. Fr Boris Bobrinskoy, dean of St Sergius Institute in Paris, France delivers commencement address. The seminary bestows on him the degree of Doctor of Divinity honoris causa.

Orthodox delegation from the World Council of Churches visits the seminary.

Dr Nicholas Ozerov, a former seminary instructor, falls asleep in the Lord. Dr Ozerov taught Russian and Old Testament at the seminary from 1958 to 1964. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr Ozerov also held the positions of Secretary and Librarian of the seminary.

Apr 12 Fr Thomas Hopko leads the seminary annual Lenten Retreat and has as his theme "The Magnificat: The Song of Mary."
Apr 6 Bishop Seraphim of Ottawa (OCA) celebrates the Divine Liturgy and ordains second-year student Edward Hewlett to the diaconate.
Apr 5 Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas (OCA) celebrates the Memorial Liturgy and ordains Deacon John Parker to the priesthood.

Apr 1 Seminary hosts the Oriental/Eastern Orthodox Symposium, on the theme "Jerusalem: Does it Divide or Unite?"
Mar 23-29 Seminary hosts ten Orthodox students from the University of California at Berkeley during the Spring Break.
Mar 21 Dean John Erickson and Ken Johnson visit and speak at four Orthodox parishes in the Indianapolis area.
Mar 10-11 SVS alumnus, Fr Alexander Atty, provides the reflections at the annual two-day retreat for students at the beginning of Lent.

Metropolitan Herman makes his first Lenten visit to the seminary to celebrate the Great Compline with the Canon of St Andrew of Crete on Monday evening.

Mar 1 Fr John Behr, Associate Professor of Patristics at St Vladimir's Seminary, and a former student of Bishop Kallistos (Ware), travels to Cambridge, U.K, formally to present the Bishop with a volume of essays honoring him. The presentation takes place at a meeting of the Friends of Mount Athos of which Bishop Kallistos is the president.
Feb 27-28 Seminary hosts Mission Symposium with Archbishop Anastasios of Albania as the keynote speaker. The seminary faculty honors the Archbishop in bestowing on him the degree of Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa.
Feb 8 For the first time, the seminary sends a representative to the National Religious Broadcaster convention in Nashville, TN .
Feb 2 Metropolitan Herman concelebrates Liturgy for the Feast of the Meeting of the Lord with Archbishop Nikolozi of the Republic of Georgia and ordains second-year student and seminary trustee, John Zarras to the diaconate in the seminary chapel.
Jan 30 Princeton Professor of Religion, Dr Albert Raboteau, is guest lecturer at the 20th Annual Fr Alexander Schmemann Memorial Lecture. His topic is: "Orthodox Christians and American Culture: Conflict or Transformation?"

Jan 26 Brian (Mark) Barber, a prospective student, enters the Orthodox Church through Chrismation.

26-28 Dec, 2002 Christmas Retreat for High School and College Youth-- "Living as a Christian in a Secular World"
Dec 25 Seminary community celebrates the Nativity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Metropolitan Philip ordains second-year student, Noah Bushelli, to the Diaconate.

Dec 22 The weekly Russian television show Progulki po Brodveyu ("Strolls down Broadway") features a segment about Orthodoxy in America that highlights St Vladimir's Seminary and the work of Fr Alexander Schmemann. New York Times reporter Serge Schmemann, son of the late Fr Schmemann, hosts the program. Interviewed in the program are Dean John Erickson, Fr Paul Lazor, Fr Leonid Kishkovsky, Matushka Juliana Schmemann and others. The intent of the program is to give Russian viewers a glimpse of how Orthodoxy has taken root in the New World, adopting American traditions and practices while remaining true to its heritage and faith.
Dec 15 Fall 2002 academic semester ends. Students depart for Christmas break.
Dec 13 An Octet from St Herman's Seminary in Kodiak, AK visits the seminary and sings some of the responses to the Liturgy in the Yupik language. For the first time beyond the borders of Alaska, they perform the ancient "Starring Tradition" for the seminary community. SVS alumnus, Fr Michael Oleksa, coordinates their trip.
Dec 12 Seminary holds a Memorial Service for Protopresbyter Alexander Schmemann on the 19th anniversary of his repose in the Lord.
Dec 8 Seminary hosts its annual St Nicholas Day Celebration for all the children in the community and church school.
Dec 6 First-year Master of Arts student, Brent Gilbert and his wife, Rachel, receive entrance into the Orthodox Church by Chrismation at the St Nicholas Day Liturgy.
Nov 21 Metropolitan Herman (OCA) visits the seminary, presides at the feast day Liturgy for the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple, and ordains John Parker to the diaconate.

Board of Trustees meets for three days of discussions under the presidency of Metropolitan Herman.

Nov 14 The seminary hosts the annual three-day "Open House for Prospective Students." Over twenty people attend the event to learn about the seminary’s programs, to attend classes, and speak to members of the faculty and student body.
Nov 12 For the first time, the Board of Trustees of Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) holds its semi-annual meetings on the seminary campus. Discussions to work together in a number of areas were promising.
Nov 7 Faculty, students, and their families celebrate the Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
Nov 5 Ten regional alumni representatives and their spouses visit the seminary campus for meetings to revitalize the Alumni Board.
Oct 24-26 Seminary hosts a Liturgical Music Seminar entitled "Continuity and Discontinuity in the Historical Tradition of Orthodox Liturgical Music."
Oct 24 SVS benefactress, Hooda Germack, hosts annual lunch for faculty and students in the seminary refectory.
Oct 20 Bishop Seraphim of Ottawa (OCA) visits the campus and presides at the Liturgy.
Oct 12 Students from Princeton Theological Seminary visit the seminary for Vigil.
Oct 5 The 33rd Annual Orthodox Education Day is celebrated with the theme "The Future of Orthodox Theology." Metropolitan Herman (OCA) and Metropolitan Philaret (Russian Orthodox Church) concelebrate the Liturgy. The seminary honors Metropolitan Philaret by bestowing on him the degree of Doctor of Divinity honoris causa.
Oct 2 Seminary hosts Academic Symposium entitled "Russian Orthodox Traditions." Metropolitan Philaret of Minsk is the keynote speaker.
Sep 22 Faculty, students, and their families enjoy the annual community picnic on the seminary grounds.
Sep 21 Dean John Erickson addresses the Crestwood Historical Society that meets for the first time on the seminary campus.
Sep 16 St Vladimir's Lecture Series begins at Holy Transfiguration Church, New Haven and continues to October 14. This year’s theme is "Orthodoxy in America Today."
Sep 14 After the Liturgy in celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Metropolitan Herman formally installs John Erickson as dean of St Vladimir’s Seminary.
Sep 11 His Eminence DANIEL, Archbishop of Tokyo, Metropolitan of All Japan, SVS Alumnus, visits campus.

Dean John Erickson represents St Vladimir's Seminary, together with a student delegation, at the Enthronement of His Beatitude HERMAN as Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada. His Beatitude is ex-officio President of St Vladimir's Seminary.
