Archbishop Gregory falls asleep in the Lord |

His Eminence, Archbishop Gregory (Afonsky), Retired Archbishop of Sitka and Alaska, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Archbishop Gregory graduated from St Vladimir’s Seminary in 1965 and later that year was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood. He later returned to St Vladimir’s Seminary and graduated in 1970 with a Master of Theology degree. In 1973, he was elected Bishop of Sitka and Alaska where he faithfully served until 1995 when he retired due to failing health. Archbishop Gregory is the author of several books in Russian and English including Christ and the Church in Orthodox Teaching and Tradition, published by SVS Press.
Funeral Services for His Eminence will be celebrated at the nativity of the Holy Virgin Church, 316 Cassville Rd, Jackson, NJ on Friday, April 18 and Lazarus Saturday, April 19, 2008.
