His Beatitude, Krystof, of the Czech Lands and Slovakia

The Fifth Primate of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, His Beatitude Krystof has become a symbol of Orthodoxy’s ability to overcome oppression and to rise in new freedom to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century by presenting the unchanging Good News in fresh ways.

An eager student and a quick learner, he was ordained at a young age and continued academic pursuits in both Russia and Greece. An articulate preacher and pastor of souls, he reflects in his life the clear record of a shepherd gathering and leading his flock in the post-communist era.

As a gifted linguist he has personally communicated the glorious story of the renewed vigor of Orthodoxy in the Czech Lands and Slovakia with other parts of the Orthodox Christian world, giving all of us the vision of what even a minority Church can do in serving others in Christ’s name.

Your primacy has seen much physical re-building of churches, monasteries, and schools. However, your pastoral leadership has also provided a clear evangelical call for the Orthodox Church to meet the spiritual needs of those seeking new life in Christ.

With admiration and respect, the Board of Trustees of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, with the consent of the Faculty Council, is honored and pleased to grant Your Beatitude the degree Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa.
