Student Council meets with Fr. Chad during the 2012-2013 Academic YearStudent Council meets with Fr. Chad during the 2012-2013 Academic YearThe purpose of the Student Council is to strengthen student participation in campus life and to facilitate communication among all aspects of the seminary community. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs (currently Priest David Mezynski), is the advisor for the Student Council, and also acts as liaison between the Student Council and the Faculty Council.

The Student Council especially encourages outreach beyond the seminary community through designated projects, charities, and causes. Members of the council view themselves as playing a role in accomplishing the goals of the SVOTS 2010 Strategic Plan: enhancing the formation of seminarians for serving the Church, improving the scope and effectiveness of SVOTS outreach—including recruitment, and enhancing SVOTS resources to provide better service.

Current President Fr. James Parnell (in his second term), outlined his plan for the council for Academic Year 2012–2013, saying: "My plan for the Student Council is to continue to foster an environment of healthy dialogue between the student body and the administration. We've worked hard to build a good relationship with the Board of Trustees and the seminary administration and this year has been very fruitful. We have been given the opportunity to assist in preparing for the 75th Anniversary celebration by working closely with the Board of Trustees and the new Executive Chair, Alex Machaskee, as well (L to R) Jabra Tannous, Fr.
