The following positions are currently available at St Vladimir's
Seminary. All positions are full-time with benefits, unless otherwise

Systems Support Specialist
St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, a graduate
school serving approximately 125 students, faculty, and staff in the Crestwood
neighborhood of Yonkers (Westchester County), New York, is seeking to hire a
temporary part-time (20-30 hours / week) Systems Support Specialist. The new employee would join a team made
up of one Director of Systems and several part-time student assistants that
support systems and information technologies at the school. This position approximates SAGE Level
II Junior Systems Administrator. The Systems Support Specialist would provide primary support to the
seminary's users and support the systems operations of the seminary's departments.
Required Skills
- Strong
interpersonal and communication skills; capable of training users in
applications and operating system fundamentals and writing basic documentation;
good phone and written communication manner.
- Familiar
with the Windows 2000/XP and Mac OS operating systems and its
commands/utilities at a user level; can edit files, issue commands, find user's
home directories, navigate through the file system. Basic familiarity with using the command line in UNIX/Linux.
- Fundamental
understanding of an operating system: for example, understanding job control,
soft and hard links or shortcuts, distinction between a user's profile and home
directory.
- Basic
familiarity with relational databases.
- Able
to follow instructions well.
- Strong
organizational skills.
Required Background
- Two
years of college or equivalent post-high school education or experience.
Desirable
- Previous
experience in customer support, computer operations, system administration or
another related area.
- A
degree or certificate in computer science or a related field.
- Familiarity
with most basic system administration tools and processes; for example, can
boot/shut down a machine, add and remove user accounts, use backup programs and
disk-checking utilities, and install a Windows workstation operating system.
- Familiarity
with Blackbaud software such as The Raiser's Edge.
- Experience
with internetworking non-similar operating systems, e.g., UNIX, Windows,
Macintosh.
- Experience
with TCP/IP networking protocols. Ability to debug DNS, DHCP, and other networking issues.
- Experience
with HTML and web design.
- Experience
using relational databases and experience using a database query language.
- Experience
maintaining network cabling.
- Experience
installing boards and memory in systems. Experience with diagnosis and repair of computer systems and peripherals
(e.g., disks and printers).
Responsibilities
- Coordinate
the operation of the seminary's helpdesk systems under the general supervision
of the Director of Systems.
- Assist
in administering network and systems under the general supervision of the
Director of Systems.
- Respond
to help desk requests and provide technical consulting on hardware and software
issues.
- Install,
configure, test, and debug operating systems and multi-user applications.
- Install,
maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate repairs for PC hardware/software.
- Maintain
WWW pages in HTML.
- Document
and maintain current hardware/software configurations, inventory files,
hardware failure reports and maintenance contracts.
- Maintain
system and application documentation.
- Be
responsible for routine purchasing of supplies and replacement parts.
- Work
on short and long-term projects as assigned.
- Provide
light administrative support to the Director of Systems and to the Operations
Department.
This is a temporary part-time position scheduled to end June
30, 2008.
