At Commencement Exercises held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, the seminary awarded diplomas in three programs: 1 Master of Theology, 8 Masters of Divinity, and 8 Masters of Arts degrees were conferred.

On the Sunday of Meatfare of the Last Judgment, His Eminence The Most Rev. Benjamin, archbishop of San Francisco and the West, Orthodox Church in America (OCA), ordained seminarian Deacon Andre Paez to the Holy Priesthood. Father Andre is in his third year of the Master of Divinity program at St. Vladimir's. During this special weekend, Fr. Andre and his wife Matushka Samantha hosted friends and family on Saturday for the baptism of their infant daughter Mariel, also presided over by His Eminence.

The seminary’s Dean The Very Rev. Dr. John Behr and the Chancellor/CEO The Very Rev. Dr. Chad Hatfield greeted His Beatitude at the doors of the seminary Chapel at the start of the festal Liturgy, which marked the end of the Nativity/Theophany liturgical cycle.

Theophany 2013 was celebrated at SVOTS with a full schedule of services. On Friday, January 4, the Great Hours of Theophany were celebrated, and on Saturday, January 5 the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom was followed immediately by Vespers service and the Great Sanctification of Water. On the Saturday evening the community celebrated the festal Vigil (Great Compline and Matins), and on Sunday, the Great and Holy Day of the Feast, the festal Divine Liturgy was followed immediately by the Great Sanctification of Water outside at Troublesome Brook. Several members of the staff and faculty also opened up their homes for blessings on Sunday afternoon after the services.

A recent gala hosted at the Estonian House on 34th Street in New York launched a project that promises to bring one of the most famed living Estonians in the world—composer Arvo Pärt— to Manhattan for an unprecedented concert-lecture series. The series will specifically explore the spiritual roots of Pärt’s music and will center on a concert at Carnegie Hall on May 31, 2014, with the composer and his wife, Nora, in attendance. The landmark performance will feature the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Tõnu Kaljuste.

Intense liturgical training was the focus of this 4-day program held Sunday, June 10–Wednesday, June 13, 2012 on St. Vladimir's Seminary's campus, for deacons and lay diaconal candidates. Practical liturgical training was supported by the celebration of a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and other services. Intensive workshops provided participants with the skills needed to serve effectively in the Orthodox Church as an attentive server, deacon, or priest. This practicum, offered for the sixth consecutive summer, was held in conjunction with the Orthodox Church in America's Diaconal Vocations Program (DVP.

From May 31-June 7, 2012, a mission team from the seminary community, led by Chancellor/CEO Archpriest Chad Hatfield, visited Guatemala to lend much-needed hands to Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage. The team assisted in moving the orphanage from "Zone 1," a crime-ridden and dangerous area of Guatemala City, to Hogar San Miquel, a new orphanage in the mountains outside of Guatemala City. Graduating seminarian Deacon Timothy Yates was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Beatitude Metropolitan Jonah, primate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), at a Divine Liturgy that preceded Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 19th. Joining His Beatitude in celebrating the liturgy was The Rt. Rev. Dr. Alexander [Golitzin], newly ordained Bishop of Toledo and the Bulgarian Diocese (OCA).
Also at the Divine Liturgy, The Very Rev. Dr. Alexander Rentel, assistant professor of Canon Law and Byzantine Studies, and also a member of the Commission on Canons and Statutes for the OCA, was awarded the Palitza, a priestly vestment, in recognition of his special contributions to the seminary as a faculty member and to the Orthodox Church as an expert in canon law. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, The Very Rev. Steven Belonick, most recently Campus Chaplain at the seminary and now rector of Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, was presented with a carved wooden cross by Chair of the Alumni Board Gregory Abdalah, in recognition of his service to the alumni of the seminary. Twenty-two graduates from St. Vladimir’s Seminary received their diplomas at Commencement Exercises held on Saturday, May 19, 2012: 2 Masters of Theology, 16 Masters of Divinity, and 4 Masters of Arts degrees were conferred. Graduates represented a broad range of ecclesial jurisdictions and included both Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Christians; twelve of the 22 graduates already had been ordained to Holy Orders. Metropolitan Jonah, who is President of the Seminary and Chair of the Board of Trustees, opened the Commencement Exercises. Class Valedictorian this year was The Rev. Gerasim [Eliel]. Second-year seminarian Harrison Basil Russin was Salutatorian. The “Saint Basil Award for Academic Achievement” was presented to The Rev. Dn. Jason Ketz, who also graduated magna cum laude. Also present at the Commencement Exercises were visiting hierarchs The Most Rev. Tikhon, archbishop of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania; The Rt. Rev. Michael, bishop of New York and New York and New Jersey; and His Eminence Mor Titus Yeldho, archbishop and patriarchal vicar of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America. At a dinner following the service of Vespers on Thursday, May 3rd, the seminary community bid farewell to Archpriest Steven J. Belonick, who served most recently as Campus Chaplain at St. Vladimir’s. Father Steven, who was employed at the seminary from 2000–2011, was assigned as rector of Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut on March 3, 2012.
During his tenure at the seminary, Fr. Steven held several positions besides his most recent one, including: Director of Recruitment, Public Relations Officer, Alumni Director, and Dean of Students. Missiology and Evangelism Workshop to be Held at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary
5/6/2011St. Vladimir's Seminary hosted a Missiology and Evangelism Workshop from 06/07/2011 to 06/08/2011. This workshop focused on outreach to people of African heritage and Spanish-speaking cultures in the U.S. and Canada. Presenters were Fr. Moses Berry, President of the Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black and pastor of the Theotokos "Unexpected Joy" Orthodox Church in Ashgrove, Missouri and Fr. Antonio Perdomo, pastor of St. George Othodox Church, Hidalgo County, Texas, and creator of several Spanish-speaking outreach resources and ministries.

On Friday, May 6, 2011, basketball teams from St. Vladimir's and St. Tikhon's seminaries traveled to the Stamford Athletic Club in Stamford, CT, to compete in their annual face off. St. Tikhon's team beat St. Vladimir's team in an evenly matched rivalry, 61 to 60, despite a valiant effort by Dn. John Cox, who drained a 3-point jumper for SVOTS in the last seconds of the game. Afterwards, both teams and their fans met at Archangels Greek Orthodox Church in Stamford, for pizza in the parish hall. We thank Fr. Harry Pappas, proistamenos at Archangels parish and adjunct professor of Pastoral Theology at St. Vladimir's, and his parishioners for hosting and feeding our teams!

On March 23, 2011, our seminary's Men's Choir, under the direction of Hierodeacon Philip (Majkrzak), sang the Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts at Christ the Saviour Greek Orthodox Church in Rye, NY.
Our dean, Archpriest John Behr, presided at the service, and the visit was hosted by Fr. Elias G. Villis, pastor of the parish. HDn. Philip and Monk Kilian (Sprecher) are singing in the background: "Let My Prayer Arise," in Carpatho-Russian chant.

On the Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos, September 8, 2011, His Beatitude Metropolitan Jonah, primate of the Orthodox Church in America; His Eminence Justinian,archbishop of Naro-Fominsk and administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the U.S.A.; and His Eminence Kallistos, bishop of Diokleia, concelebrated the Divine Liturgy in Three Hierarchs Chapel. After the Divine Liturgy, Mr. Valerian Sergievich Balakirev, representative of "National Awards Committee," which works with the approval of the Hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church, and under the patronage of the Patriarch of Moscow, presented the "Triumph of Orthodoxy" award to Metropolitan Jonah.
