Deacon Nicholas Roth is a second–year seminarian who hails from the Diocese of the South, Orthodox Church in America (OCA). In 2001, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from The University of Tulsa, Oklahoma. On May 18, 2013, His Beatitude the Most Blessed Tikhon, archbishop of Washington and metropolitan of All America and Canada, ordained Nicholas to the Holy Diaconate in Three Hierarchs Chapel, St. Vladimir's Seminary, in the morning of Commencement day.
Prior to his arrival on campus, Nicholas served as a Captain in the Army. His military years commenced when he enlisted as an infantryman in 2001, and subsequently deployed overseas for three separate assignements: Iraq from 2005–2006, and again from 2007–2008 after being commissioned a Second Lieutenant; then Afghanistan from 2009–2010.
Nicholas has been an active and enthusiastic participant in the life of the campus community. The current sacristan at Three Hierarchs Chapel, he also has served as the second–year representative on the SVOTS Student Council and as the liaison to the Council for the St. Herman of Alaska Student Ecology Group. A resident assistant (RA) for the North Dorm and 8–Plex Apartments, Nicholas has also been a key player on the St. Vlad's Impalers basketball team, providing critical support in the recent win over St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary in the annual hoops match–up. Nicholas' wife Mary is a speech–language pathologist, and is currently working at Richmond Community Services in Yonkers, NY.
