Thoughts On Our New Website
On this Feast of the Transfiguration, August 6th, we welcome the “transfiguration” of the St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary Website. What you now see is the result of many months of self-reflection, critical analysis, and the dreams that came forth regarding our desire to have a Website that truly reflects what the Seminary represents to a worldwide audience. Today those dreams become a reality, and I am sure that you will join me in exploring the many new features this exciting new tool for communication provides.
This Website will make it easier for you to find your particular area of interest and to follow the rapidly changing news and stories from SVOTS. Last year, when our Seminary received the “Unity of Orthodox Peoples Award,” Patriarch Kirill of Moscow stated at the ceremony that he believes SVOTS has “no peer.” When you explore this new Website, which is our prime agent for communication and information, you may well come to the same conclusion. With so much good happening at SVOTS we wanted to offer you a Website that was easy to navigate, informative, and a pleasure to view, and I believe we have met those goals.
My thanks goes to our Web Team, Virginia Nieuwsma, editor and project manager, Mark Klinski, site developer and technical advisor, and Joel Wilson, designer. We will continue to work with this team as we further develop new and separate Websites for SVS Press and SVS Bookstore in the coming year. These sites will improve the marketing ability for our press and bookstore, and make it easier for you to order online. Watch us closely for those launch dates!
I also want to thank the full SVOTS community who provided valuable information and feedback as this project was being developed. This includes faculty, staff, and board members. Our seminarians and the members of their families and many of our alumni offered wonderful suggestions as well. Donors and benefactors presented our Advancement Team with their own ideas and concerns, and our Web Team has done their best to address these.
As we have now gone public, we want to hear from you. Please take some time to assist us with by sending along your comments and observations as we celebrate the launch of this beautiful new Website. You may become a fan of SVOTS and add your comments to our Facebook page, or send your remarks to Webeditor@svots.edu. As always, we thank you for your prayers and financial support that sustain and grow our mission of service to the Orthodox Church.
