Jazz Night in Wichita

Come join us in Wichita, Kansas to help support St. Vladimir’s Seminary, and enjoy a little jazz on the side! On Friday, June 1, alumni and friends in Wichita will host a jazz cocktail evening to support the seminary. The event will be held at the Hinkle Law Building.

Special guests include His Grace Basil, bishop of the Diocese of Wichita and Mid-America of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America (AOCANA), and Archpriest Chad Hatfield, president of St. Vladimir’s Seminary. The night will also feature live music from the Randy Fields Jazz Band.

Tickets for the jazz cocktail event, which begins at 6 p.m., are priced at $35 with an additional donation requested.

Annunciation Benefit Banquet

Celebrate Annunciation with us! On Sunday evening, March 25, on the Feast of the Annunciation, friends in North Carolina will host a banquet to support St. Vladimir’s Seminary. The dinner will be held at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Durham.

Alumni Priest Christopher Foley and Priest Dr. Timothy Thomas will be speaking at the banquet along with Seminary President Archpriest Chad Hatfield. Fr. Christopher graduated from St. Vladimir’s in 2006 and is currently Pastor of Holy Cross Orthodox Church in High Point, NC. Fr. Timothy, from the class of 2016, serves as Associate Pastor of St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Church in Raleigh, and is an Assistant Professor at St. John’s University in New York.

Music on the Mount Concert

As part of the Seminary’s “Revitalizing Parish Music” program, a “Music on the Mount” concert will be given Saturday, October 21 at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, in Danbury, CT, where Archpriest Luke Mihaly is the pastor.

A select mixed choir led by Robin Freeman, who is the Director of Music at the Seminary, will be performing pieces taken from a forthcoming SVS Press CD titled, “Every Day Will I Bless Thee,” as well as some traditional hymns.

“Lone Star Benefit Banquet”

On Friday, February 2, 2018 friends in the Lone Star state will host a banquet to support St. Vladimir’s Seminary. The dinner will be held at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas, an exclusive venue with superb dining.

Alumni Archimandrite Gerasim, dean of the St. Seraphim Cathedral in Dallas, Orthodox Church in America, and Lijin Hannah Raju, general secretary of the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, both are speaking at the banquet. Seminary President Archpriest Chad Hatfield will be offering remarks as well.

Tickets for the banquet meal, which begins at 7 p.m., are priced at $35, with an additional donation requested.

“Roaring 20s Benefit Gala”

June 3, 2017

On Saturday, June 3, 2017, St. Luke Orthodox Church, Garden Grove, CA, will host a benefit gala on behalf of the Seminary: “The Roaring Twenties: A Jazz Age Party.” Archpriest Michael Tassos, an alumnus of St. Vladimir’s Seminary and parish rector, is coordinating the event.

The gala, which includes dinner, will be held in St. Luke’s Social Hall and will begin immediately following a Vespers Service at 5 p.m. in the church. Archpriest Chad Hatfield, president of St. Vladimir’s Seminary, and seminary alumnus Gregory Abdalah, youth pastor at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Phoenix, AZ, will be offering brief remarks during the banquet.

Slava Banquet

On Sunday, April 30, 2017, His Grace Irinej, bishop of the Eastern Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church, will celebrate the “Slava”  (Patron’s Saint’s Day) of St. George’s Serbian Orthodox Church, North Canton, OH.

The celebration is being hosted by the parish at St. George’s Event Center, and is being coordinated by the parish rector, Priest Aleksa Pavichevich, with the blessing of Bishop Irinej. Proceeds from the Slava will benefit St. Vladimir’s Seminary, the alma mater of both Bishop Irinej and Fr. Aleksa.

“Arvo Pärt: Sounding the Sacred” Conference

We are pleased to announce an international conference to be held from May 1-4, 2017 in the heart of New York City’s vibrant Lincoln Center music scene: “Arvo Pärt: Sounding the Sacred.” This event will bring together scholars from diverse fields (music, theology, sacred acoustics/sound studies, architecture, religious studies, philosophy), as well as artists experienced in the performance and recording of Pärt’s music, to create a unique forum for the exchange of ideas, research, practices and creativity on the topics of sound and the sacred. The event is hosted by the Sacred Arts Initiative and the Arvo Pärt Project at St.

Fr. Erickson to Receive WTC Award

On Thursday, February 9, 2017, Archpriest John Erickson, professor emeritus and former dean of St. Vladimir’s Seminary, will receive the Washington Theological Consortium’s (WTC) Ecumenism Award during an ecumenical event held annually in Washington, D.C.: the “Prayer Service for Christian Unity.” Father John will also present the 9th Annual Figel Address on Ecumenism, this year titled, “What Divides, What Unites? Shifting Perceptions in Ecumenical Relations.”

Orthodox-Catholic Prayer for Unity & Life

On Monday, January 23, 2017, at 7 p.m., St. Vladimir’s Seminary will co-sponsor an “Orthodox-Catholic Prayer for Unity and Life” event at the Parish of St. John Nepomucene and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. Other sponsors include the host parish and the Parish of St. Vincent Ferrer and St. Catherine of Sienna. An Orthodox Christian service, the “Akathist for the Unborn,” and a Roman Catholic service, the “Divine Mercy Chaplet,” will be held during the evening.
