 Donor Opportunities to Assist in Manuscript Production and Publication

Patrons play a major role in SVS Press’s mission of spreading the gospel and educating the world about Orthodox Christianity. Patrons who sponsor SVS Press titles boost SVS Press & Bookstore revenues, which in turn feed the Seminary’s annual operational fund.

Below is a list of manuscripts, all by well-known authors, just waiting for a patron. 1)   Jesus Christ, His Life and Teaching Series

In this six-volume series Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev provides a thorough treatment of the four Gospels and addresses current biblical scholarship—critiquing what is problematic, affirming and employing what is useful, and bringing the tradition of the Church to bear upon contemporary questions.

Jesus Christ, His Life and Teaching Series/ Volume 2: The Sermon on the Mount

Volume 2 focuses on Christ’s Sermon on the Mount, examining it in light both of contemporary biblical scholarship and church tradition.

This final volume examines, in great depth and breadth, the sacraments—also known as the “mysteries,” of the Church—by drawing upon the riches of tradition while addressing contemporary questions.

The St. Vladimir's Seminary Press Classics Series presents new editions of the Press’s most beloved texts, with fresh forewords and additional material to help readers delve deeper into these seminal works of contemporary Orthodox thought.

SVS Press Classics Series / Volume 1: For the Life of the World
By Father Alexander Schmemann

Father Alexander Schmemann’s renowned work introduces readers to a sacramental worldview and calls them to live in a Eucharistic manner: filled with God’s Spirit, in any setting or circumstance. Featuring a foreword by Dr. Edith Humphrey, the new edition also contains updated explanatory notes. This classic—frequently assigned to students in Protestant seminaries—has brought many readers to Orthodoxy.

SVS Press Classics Series / Volume 3: St Gregory Palamas and Orthodox Spirituality

Platonism and Mystical Theology
By Jean Daniélou

Appearing for the first time in English, this seminal work illumines the person and thought of a major church father, St. Gregory of Nyssa. Author Jean Daniélou was an important figure in the French ressourcement movement—a mid-20th century Roman Catholic theological movement that insisted on a return to patristic thought. Contemporary Orthodox theologians who also encouraged a return to the original writings of the church fathers, such as Alexander Schmemann and John Meyendorff, often referenced his work.
