Founded in 1938 in New York City, St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary is an accredited member of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). Our academic programs, centered on the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree, also advance Orthodox scholarship through the Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Theology (Th.M.), and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degrees.

An institution of and for the Church under the omophorion of the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), St Vladimir’s Seminary provides theological instruction and formation for men and women preparing themselves as candidates for the ordained and lay ministries of the Church.
Our History
In the fall of 1794, eight Russian monks arrived in Alaska and sowed the seeds of Orthodox Christianity on what would eventually become U.S. soil. Sensing the need for a center of theological and pastoral training, they quickly moved to establish a school on Kodiak Island....
Board of Trustees
St. Vladimir’s Seminary’s Board of Trustees is independent, experienced, and diverse. Its membership, drawn from the various Orthodox jurisdictions that the Seminary serves, includes clergy and laity distinguished by their achievements in such fields as finance, business, media, law, medicine, and education....
Faculty Directory
The diverse, pan-Orthodox group of professors and lecturers at St. Vladimir’s deliver instruction of high academic standards, grounded in the theology, tradition, and worship of the Church, and engaged with needs and issues facing today’s Orthodox Christians. These instructors are recruited by St. Vladimir’s not only for their distinguished scholarship and achievements but also for their ability to teach and guide seminarians.

For many years an outside external auditing firm has prepared audited financial statements for the Seminary, and has made these reports available to the public.
Commendations
Since 1962, SVS has been part of the City of Yonkers deemed by local residents as the “Crestwood neighborhood,” and the seminary’s contributions to the surrounding community were recognized not only by the historical society, but also by city, county, and state representatives during the evening’s celebration.
