Orthodox Education Day 2016
Throughout the history of the Christian Church, the Virgin Mary has been the focus of unparalleled love and devotion, the subject of fervent prayer. Join us for our annual open house and fall festival, this year on the feast day of the Protection of the Mother of God, as we celebrate the life and person of the Theotokos.
Renowned scholar Dr. Mary B. Cunningham, author of Gateway of Life: Orthodox Thinking on the Mother of God, will deliver the Annual Father John Meyendorff Memorial Lecture, which is part of this year’s Orthodox Education Day and is entitled, “The Mystery of Mary: The Mother of God in the Orthodox Christian Tradition.” Dr. Cunningham is Honorary Associate Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.
Please worship with us, beginning with an 8 a.m. Divine Liturgy, and attend other liturgical services from the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox traditions, which represent the diversity of our student body. Attend presentations on topics such as the "Iconography of the Akathist," and learn about the ministry of All Saints Greek Orthodox Monastery of Calverton, NY, which focuses on providing services to survivors of human trafficking. Visit our marketplace filled with international cuisine and Orthodox books and gifts. And, bring the kids—there will be special activities throughout the day just for them!
Three Hierarchs Chapel and the seminary bookstore will be open to the public throughout the day. Admission is free. We hope to see you there!
