[img_assist|nid=7900|title=|desc=Margaret Barker, D.D., our 2012 Schmemann Lecturer|link=none|align=right|width=200|height=248]Margaret Barker, an independent scholar who has developed an approach to Biblical Studies now known as Temple Theology, will be the presenter at the 29th Father Alexander Schmemann Memorial Lecture on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at 4 p.m. The lecture, titled "Our Great High Priest: The Church as the New Temple," is free and open to the public and will be held in the John G. Family Rangos Building on our campus.

The famed vocal chamber ensemble Cappella Romana will sing the responses during Great Vespers and Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Archangels in our Three Hierarchs Chapel. We warmly welcome our friends and neighbors to celebrate with us and to hear the solemn beauty of this choral group, which travels throughout the world. Great Vespers will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 7; Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8.

Our Fall 2011 Open House will provide those contemplating ministry or a deeper study of the Orthodox faith with first-hand experience of seminary life. Participants will attend classes, worship in the chapel, tour the campus and its resources, and meet faculty members and seminarians. Detailed information on the Seminary's various degree programs, financial aid, and admissions process also will be provided. Additionally, prospective students will have the pleasure of sharing our Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Day meal.

We will be selling everything from household items to sports items to furniture and clothing. Proceeds from the sale, which will be held in the Kunett Auditorium (basement) under Three Hierarchs Chapel, will benefit children's activities on campus, including our children's choir. Please stop by and search for your "treasure" amid the multitude of goods that we will be selling. Or, simply come to browse and buy a cup of coffee to benefit our campus kids.

They will begin parish visitations by singing at the Orthodox Christian Church of the Annunciation, in Brick, New Jersey, where Archpriest Gary Breton is rector. The choir will sing at the Divine Liturgy, which begins at 10 a.m., and then will offer a few musical selections at the coffee hour following the service. Archpriest Chad Hatfield, chancellor/CEO at St. Vladimir's, will accompany the choir, and Dn. The retreat will begin with a Divine Liturgy celebrated in our campus Chapel of the Three Hierarchs at 9 a.m., followed by a lenten brunch and then two presentations by Dr. Guroian. First Talk with Q&A 11:30 a.m.: "I confess the Cross because I know of the Resurrection" Coffee and Bookstore Break: 12:30 p.m. Second Talk with Q&A 1 p.m.: "O Death, where is your sting?"

It's his way of connecting with alumni, friends, donors, and potential students, informing them of what's happening at our school and receiving feedback as to how the seminary might better serve them and the Church at-large. John Behr (third from left) visits St. Gregory the Theologian Church in Wappingers Falls, NY on the occasion of the parish's patronal feast and the blessing of their beautiful new facilities.|link=none|align=left|width=285|height=218]Our Dean, Archpriest John Behr, travels nationally and internationally: visiting parishes and clergy assemblies to present retreats and book studies, meeting with administrators from Orthodox Christian seminaries throughout the world, speaking at colleges and universities, and serving on many non-profit boards. Father John is a renowned scholar of the church fathers, and he lectures both in academic circles and in popular venues.

[img_assist|nid=8334|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=300|height=468]On Saturday, February 4th at 1 p.m. a prayer service for the sick will be held at St. Vladimir’s Seminary in Three Hierarchs Chapel. The Paraclesis (or, lesser supplicatory canon) to the Mother of God will be sung by the seminary community choir, as an intercessory service for all those who are ill, and the seminary invites friends and alumni to attend. The Paraclesis will be sung to a new setting by composer Robert Sirico, who is the founder of the Orthodox Christian Music Project (OCMP), and a private student of our Assistant Professor of Liturgical Music at the seminary, Dr. Nicholas Reeves.

[img_assist|nid=8341|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=300|height=191]During the second week of Great Lent, March 10–11, 2012, which commemorates St. Gregory Palamas, our seminary Men's Choir will be singing at two parishes in Western Pennsylvania: St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Allison Park, Pennsylvania (OCA), at Vespers and Divine Liturgy, and Holy Trinity Church, State College, Pennsylvania (OCA), at Sunday evening Vespers. The choir is under the direction of Hierodeacon Herman (Majkrzak), lecturer in Liturgical Music and Chapel Music Director at St. Vladimir's Seminary. The choir will be accompanied by Archpriest Chad Hatfield, chancellor/CEO of the seminary.
