Help Publish an SVS Press Book—The Life and Teaching of St. Gregory Palamas

Would you like to contribute to the publishing of a St. Vladimir’s Seminary Press book? Each year, SVS Press publishes and distributes spiritually enriching Orthodox Christian material. One hundred percent of net sales directly support the formation of St. Vladimir's seminarians, doubling the impact of each gift that underwrites a new Press title.

The Life and Teaching of St. Gregory Palamas by St. Dumitru Stăniloae is ready to go to press. We’re offering a unique opportunity to those who want help make this text available to all.

St. Dumitru Stăniloae was a Romanian Orthodox priest widely recognized as the most influential and creative Romanian theologian of the twentieth century for his significant contributions to systematic theology and for his translations of the Church Fathers into Romanian. A political prisoner for a time under Romania’s communist regime, he was canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2025.

When it was first published in 1938, The Life and Teaching of St. Gregory Palamas was a groundbreaking study of the history and theology of the hesychast controversy. Stăniloae delves deeply into both the theology and the history of the hesychast controversy to demonstrate the rectitude of St. Gregory’s life and conduct during the turbulent years of the mid-fourteenth century.

Now you can help make this historic work available for the first time in English. St. Vladimir’s Seminary and SVS Press invite you to participate in this exciting project at the levels below, or with any gift amount of your choosing.
